Report: Babysitter arrested in death of NYC boy, 4

Updated 2:46 p.m.

NEW YORK - The babysitter of a 4-year-old New York City boy who died Wednesday has been arrested in the child's death, reports CBS New York.

Authorities were called to a building in Manhattan Wednesday and found the child, Myles Dobson, in the bathroom. The 4-year-old was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead.

The 37-year-old woman who was caring for the boy, whose name has not been released, reportedly told police she had put the child on the bathroom counter and left the room briefly. Police say the woman told them the boy fell and landed in an empty bathtub.

But sources tell CBS New York the child had cigarette burns on his body as well as bruises. The sources also say the child had been in the custody of the babysitter since the boy’s father was arrested Dec. 19 over an unspecified bench warrant in Mays Landing, N.J. He reportedly remains jailed.

The child was removed from his mother’s custody after an investigation by the Administration for Children’s Services for neglect in Sept. 2011, sources told the station.

According to DNAinfo, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton described the child's injuries as "horrific" at a news conference Thursday.

"The briefing I had this morning provided, in addition to some very horrific pictures, some detail based on the investigation of what that young boy had been forced to deal with for several days. I won't go into more specifics than that," Bratton reportedly said, adding the child endured "horrific injuries over a period of days."

The medical examiner’s office will determine the boy’s cause of death.
