Report: Calif. boot camp operator may face more charges for mistreating youth

(CBS) - A youth boot camp operator already under indictment for extortion and false imprisonment may face more charges stemming from incidents recorded at his Southern California facility for at-risk youth, reports the Pasadena Sun.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles County District Attorney Caroline Lugo asked a court for more time in the Kelvin McFarland case, saying, "We may be filing on other matters. That decision has not been made," according to the Sun.

McFarland, who ran the Family First Growth Camp, is already accused of handcuffing a 14-year-old girl and demanding payment from her parents in May 2011.

In October 2011, a video surfaced that allegedly caught McFarland and other instructors shouting at a boy with a tire around his neck and forcing kids to drink water until they vomited. At the time, police said they were launching an investigation into the conduct on the video.

On Wednesday, Lugo would not say whether the potential new charges may be related to the video, although police have interviewed witnesses in the matter and given the information to prosecutors, according to the Sun.

The case has been extended until Feb. 22.
