Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid isn't even up for re-election, but conservatives believe they've found a target for their ire over the energy debate.
The American Future Fund, which describes itself as a promoter of free market conservative ideals, has created a fairly rudimentary advertisement that mocks Reid's recent comments that "oil makes us sick" _ comments that shot Reid to the top of YouTube for a day.
The ad script blares: "Reid says no to energy exploration in Alaska and off our coasts. And no to the safe development of our massive oil shale reserves."
And then it goes through the usual song and dance of imploring listeners to call Reid's office and demand more drilling, etc.
The American Future Fund, a Virginia outfit run by Republican operatives that include Mitt Romney's former Iowa spokesman, has a related PAC that has promised to funnel soft money to various Senate races this year.
Reid is not up for re-election until 2010, but this direct targeting may be a sign that conservative activists have broadened their attacks on the Democratic Congress beyond the usual Nancy Pelosi bashing rhetoric.
