Reid Calls For Congressional Hearings On Tanker Deal

While senators and House members from Washington state continue their outrage over Boeing losing a $40 billion air tanker contract, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) says Congress should hold hearings to investigate the deal.

The surprise award to Northrop Grumman and its partner, the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co., has reverberated throughout Capitol Hill, where lawmakers remain baffled that an overseas company could have beaten out a homegrown giant like Boeing.

Without directly criticizing the deal on Tuesday, Reid joined the fray, saying "I think we should look into it ... at the very least there should be congressional hearings."

Six Republican Senate leaders, when asked about the tanker contract at a press conference, all shrugged and said they had nothing to say about the deal.
