Reconstructing Da Vinci's Work
Leonardo da Vinci's portrait of 16-year-old Ginevra de' Benci is on display at Washington's National Gallery of Art.
The gallery's top expert of the period, David Allen Brown, has published a book Leonardo da Vinci: Origins of a Genius.
In it, Brown details how he and the gallery staff recreated the bottom one-third section of the painting, which had been destroyed.
A computer, an infrared thermal imaging camera and a drawing from Britain's Windsor Castle were used to recreate the missing area.
