Ray Romano to guest star on "The Middle"

(CBS) Ray Romano and his "Everybody Loves Raymond" co-star Patricia Heaton are reuniting on ABC's "The Middle."

The actor is set to appear with his former on-screen wife when the sitcom returns for its third season on Sept. 21.

According to TVGuide.com, Romano will appear in the special one-hour installment as Nicky Kohlbrenner, a man from Heaton's character Frankie's past.

In the episode, Frankie and her husband Mike go on a road trip that sparks memories of their honeymoon, which Kohlbrenner had a hand in ruining. Series co-creator Eileen Heisler told TVGuide that the episode begins shooting this month.

Romano's TNT series, "Men of a Certain Age," was canceled in July.
