Radio Going To The Dogs. And Cats.

Adrian Martinez had a dog-gone good idea.

He founded DogCatRadio.com and it isn't for people; it's for pets.

DogCatRadio.com is an online radio station geared for furry, four-legged listeners. It's thought to be the first station of its kind.

Interviewed with the station's morning DJ, Jane Harris, Adrian Martinez

The Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith he got the idea from "two things that mean a lot to me. One is music and one is pets. I just thought, 'What better way to combine both and share them with the world?' "

Admitting "You're gonna think I'm crazy," Martinez says one of his pets communicated the idea to him, in a fashion. "One of my cats likes to sit on the desk and hang out while I play music. But whenever I put it down, she would kind of act up and stuff. I never understood why. So she would walk on the keyboard and act a mess until I put on music. Not just any music. It had to be '80s music, and she'd be fine after that. Go figure."

What's the play list like?

"We take requests. We've been getting requests … for anything by The Monkeys, The Animals, 'Who Let the Dogs Out', Elvis doing 'You Ain't Nothing But a Hound Dog.' It's eclectic, for sure."

Martinez says the station's success has surprised even him: "We decided to go online to be accessible to the entire pet community, but we underestimated the pet community, because it's global. In the past 24 hours, we've gotten over 50,000 hits from around the world. Listeners are just tuning in and sending e-mails left and right. Our server is going off the wall. It's interesting."

Asked if there are certain songs that dogs prefer more than cats, Martinez said, "Dogs like disco, I noticed. It tends to get the paws shaking, that sort of thing."
