(CBS) Rachel Bilson likes to joke that her attraction to fashion was love at first sight.

"It was a young marriage between me and clothing," joked. Bilson, who teamed up with designer Karl Lagerfeld for an ice cream commercial that debuted Thursday night at New York's Tribeca Film Festival..

For Thursday night's showing of the Magnum ice cream ad, the 29-year-old actress wore a Chanel dress, carried a Chanel clutch and said that anyone interested in fashion would do anything to work with Lagerfeld, even for an ice cream commercial.

"I was like, I'm working with Karl Lagerfeld. I could be doing something, like, really ridiculous and in, like, a big clown suit. It wouldn't matter,'' she said.

Bilson, who is a staple in the front row at designer shows and writes about fashion for InStyle magazine, is best known for her role on "The OC." She recently shot a TV pilot, "Hart of Dixie,'' for the CW network but it is not known whether it was picked up for the fall season.

For the ads, Bilson was the right actress, Lagerfeld said.

"Rachel is great, you know," he said. "She's a very good actress. She can play with her face without even saying one word. It was an easy job. The company told her what they wanted and the spirit and she adapted."
