Pursuit suspect holes up in LA home with rifle

LOS ANGELES - An armed motorist pursued by police around Los Angeles at high speeds is now barricaded in a North Hollywood home.

Police Cmdr. Andrew Smith says Monday that the man is believed to be alone in the home and armed with a rifle.

Smith said a warrant was issued for the man's arrest after he allegedly made terroristic threats several days ago, reports CBS Los Angeles.

Police say residents near the 11600 block of Hartsook Street should stay in their homes and lock their doors and windows; nearby schools are on lockdown.

Police have set up a several block perimeter around the area. SWAT negotiators are trying to contact the suspect.

Smith says the man pointed his rifle multiple times at officers pursuing him for more than an hour along Los Angeles freeways. The man abandoned his car, and paced on a rooftop with the rifle before climbing down and entering a home.

CBS Los Angeles reports officials have safely removed at least three people from nearby residences.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, is described as being a Hispanic male who is roughly 40-years-old.
