Punxsutawney Phil on police "Most Wanted" list

MERRIMACK, N.H. - There's a warrant out for Punxsutawney Phil's arrest.

In an attempt to lighten the mood amid one of the bleakest winter stretches in New England in recent memory, the Merrimack, New Hampshire Police Department posted to Facebook that they are on the lookout for the famous groundhog, reports CBS Boston.

The post reads, "We have received several complaints from the public that this little varmint is held up in a hole, warm and toasty. He told several people that winter would last 6 more weeks, however he failed to disclose that it would consist of mountains of snow!"

The post continues by warning citizens to not approach the groundhog because he is "armed and dangerous."

Instead, authorities say, "Call Merrimack Police, we will certainly take him into custody!"

The fact that Punxsutawney Phil is a denizen of Pennsylvania apparently is no obstacle.
