Protect Yourself at Public Wi-Fi Hotspots

openvpn.jpgMost of us spend at least some time working on the road, which often means connecting to public Wi-Fi hotspots. The good news: They're free. The bad news: They're usually unsecured, meaning you could be vulnerable to hackers. Web Worker Daily has the scoop on free Virtual Private Network (VPN) solutions, which are all but guaranteed to keep your system safe. The preferred choice? OpenVPN:

Whether you use Windows, a Mac, or Linux, OpenVPN is probably your simplest, most robust way --among the free products -- to secure your Wi-Fi sessions. The download takes seconds, and OpenVPN works with Windows Vista. OpenVPN is a long-standing open-source project, so while you won't get the support you receive if you pay for a VPN, it is a very solid product that shouldn't provide any compatibility problems.
There are other options as well; just make sure you use one of them the next time you set up shop at the local coffee joint.
