"Project Runway" crowns a new champion

"Project Runway" has another new star. The Lifetime series crowned a new winner Thursday night.

(Spoiler alert)

Fabio Costa, 29, Melissa Fleis, 31, Christopher Palu, 24, and Dmitry Sholokhov, 33, battled it out in hopes of impressing the judges by at New York Fashion Week.

The finalists had to show off their final designs at New York's Lincoln Center. It came down to the last two days, and the group was given a final trip to Mood and $300. Judges encouraged the contenders to improve their designs.

Costa had to increase his sophistication level, while Sholokhov restyled his fringe jacket from the previous week. Fleis, meanwhile, went for a bolder look; she opted for a blood-orange gown. Palu strove to be a bit more edgy.

In the end, Sholokhov, the Belarus-born ballroom dancer-turned-designer, wowed the judges enough to snag the season 10 title. The judges liked his architectural design, and guest judge Jennifer Hudson told him, "It's rich, honey."

Sholokhov walked away with $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch his own label, a fashion spread in Marie Claire and a 2013 Lexus. He also gets the chance to design and sell an exclusive line at Lord & Taylor.

"Dmitry, you have your wings now, so go and fly," judge Heidi Klum told the New York-based designer.

"This is the biggest day of my life...I'm beyond happy and proud," Sholokhov said.

Lifetime will premiere a new all-star season of "Project Runway" on Oct. 25.
