(CBS/AP) Commoners can make all the fun they like, but a wacky royal hat is going for $30,000 or more.

Online auctioneer eBay said Wednesday that bids for the massive ring-and-bow-shaped hat that Britain's Princess Beatrice wore to her cousin's wedding have approached $30,000. And the auction has almost a week to run.

Most CBSNews.com viewers who took an online poll said they wouldn't spend a penny on the hat.

The Philip Treacy creation that turned heads at the April 29 wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton has been compared to a toilet seat or a pretzel. Beatrice wore it ith a dress and coat from Valentino Haute Couture,

The topper was ridiculed online, has its own Facebook fan page and has been Photoshopped atop the heads of Miss Piggy, Chewbaca and even President Obama and his national security team.

Treacy creations were seen at the royal wedding atop the heads of Princess Eugenie, Victoria Beckham and Zara Phillips, among others.

Funds from the hat's sale will go to UNICEF and Children in Crisis, according to eBay. Beatrice said she hoped whoever bought the hat would have "as much fun with it as I have."

The auction ends May 22.
