Prince William and Kate kick off two-day Scotland tour

Prince William and wife Kate touched down in Scotland on Thursday to kick off a two-day royal tour.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge -- who are known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn when in Scotland -- arrived in the city of Glasgow, where they toured a sporting arena and visited a homeless shelter.

The pregnant duchess, 31, donned a tartan coat by British label Moloh for the trip, according to the Daily Mail, which she paired with tall black boots. Her husband, 30, wore a navy suit and red tie.

William and Kate met young athletes and locals when they toured Emirates Arena, which will be one of the venues for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. There, they were treated to sporting demonstrations and a performance from the Glasgow 2014 mascot, Clyde.

Glasgow 2014 marketing manager Samantha Jones told the BBC: "Clyde doesn't speak but he was gesturing to Kate about her baby as if to congratulate her. Before the visit he was asking if he could pat the bump, but we told him no. When he was signaling to her about the baby, she just laughed and said 'Oh yes, the baby. Thank you very much.'"

Later Thursday, they reportedly visited a homeless shelter and had a conversation via Skype with two of the charity's residents, who are now on a work exchange program in the Netherlands.
