Prince Harry, Bachelor Again. But Why?

This column was written by U.K. celebrity journalist and royal watcher Neil Sean.

The Facebook account said it all for Chelsy Davy, one time paramour of Prince Harry. After five years together, the loved-up couple is no more.

What brought about the split? Simple: Prince Harry has finally grown up.

"It's a case of your first real love, and moving away, moving on with life," a source close to the Prince revealed to me.

His stint in the army and his time on active duty have led Harry to the realization that partying, holidays and a demanding girlfriend are no longer needed on his quest to prove himself to his country and, more importantly, his father Prince Charles, according to my source.

The young couple, "were in love, no question about it."

But one has to remember that Harry is still young, has no plans to settle down and wants to forge a career without any distractions.

A chief distraction, some thought, was Ms. Davy, who has fit in with the royals to a point, but has never been fully accepted the way, say, Kate Middleton has.

Middleton, love interest of Harry's brother Prince William, is a little older and a little wiser, she knows how to play the royal game.

For her part, Ms. Davy simply believes that Harry, "needs time to grow up and take note of what he might lose in the long run," according to a source very close to her who spoke with her in Leeds, where she is working toward a degree in law.

Chelsy remains "optimistic that it can all work out." While she has not thrown down the gauntlet, it would appear that changing her "status" on Facebook was a signal to Prince Harry, saying, "come in fast or your time is through."

The breaking point of their relationship came after a recent rocky festive season and a few dramas regarding their future together.

The source close to Harry's South African-ex added that Chelsy had "always believed that one day they would both return to Africa to live." That's a nice dream, but impossible in reality.

One close pal didn't seem worried about Chelsy. "She will bounce back. She is a great girl and any man would be thrilled to have her on his arm."

Just not Prince Harry it would seem.
