Pregnant mother of five gunned down in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH - A pregnant woman with five other children died after being shot multiple times Tuesday night, reports CBS Pittsburgh.

Police said Deona Barnett, 27, was walking by herself around 9 p.m. Tuesday when she was struck by bullets.

Before she died, Barnett told paramedics she was pregnant, said Pittsburgh police spokesperson Sonya Toler.

"Right now, we do know that our victim was walking when the shooting occurred. Our witnesses can only say, because it was dark, that they saw a shadowy figure at this point in time," Toler said.

Barnett was taken to a hospital and died less than an hour after the shooting.

On Wednesday, detectives were back at the victim's home, where neighbors say she lived with her boyfriend.

Toler told CBS Pittsburgh that it is unclear if Barnett was targeted or if the shooting was random.

Police have not said if there is a suspect in the case.
