Police subdue man allegedly trying to steal baby

SOMERVILLE, Mass. -- A Boston-area man faces multiple charges after police say he kicked in the door of a child care center, grabbed a 1-year-old girl, and then fought six officers, even grabbing one officer's gun, reports CBS Boston.

Police say Sandro Corbelli initially grabbed two children at the Somerville, Mass. daycare, but one was quickly able to escape.

Mairia Santos, who helps run the daycare out of a second-floor apartment, said Corbelli was yelling during the attack that he wanted money to go to Brazil.

"He was just kind of crazy. I pushed him away and called police," Santos told the station. She said Corbelli recently moved into an apartment above the daycare.

Police say when they arrived Corbelli had a 1-year old child in a bear hug. They were able to get the child, but it took several officers to subdue Corbelli.

He was taken to the hospital with a head injury, and an officer sustained a minor injury, CBS Boston reported.

Corbelli was arraigned Wednesday on multiple charges including kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest and breaking and entering, reports WHDH.

The station reports he will be kept in a psychiatric facility for 20 days before his next court appearance.
