Police: Principal Dies From Calif. School Shooting

PLACERVILLE, Calif. (AP) - A police chief says a 50-year-old elementary school principal has died after being shot by a school janitor at a Northern California school. Placerville police Chief George Nielson says Louisiana Schnell Principal Sam LaCara died Wednesday from a gunshot wound to his torso. The school had been locked down by authorities after the shooting in the principal's office Wednesday morning.

No children were hurt.

Authorities arrested the school's janitor, John Luebbers, at his home about an hour after authorities launched a manhunt. El Dorado County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Byers says the motive for the shooting is not clear.

Students were being released back to their parents.
