Police: Ohio dad arrested after baby choked on wipe, put on life support

(CBS/WOIO) CLEVELAND, Ohio - Police say a Cleveland area father was arrested after his infant choked on a baby wipe.

Police say they took 25-year-old Joshua Rains into taken into custody after his infant son was rushed to the hospital on No. 9 where he was put on life support, reports CBS affiliate WOIO.

WOIO reports Rains told police he had wiped the baby's mouth with the wipe and then the wipe disappeared. Rains said he tried to retrieve the wipe, but he only pushed it down further.

Police, however, say the child's injuries are not consistent with the father's statement and Rains was charged with felony child endangerment. The case will next go to the Grand Jury where more charges could be added.

There was another incident when the baby was only five days old, WOIO reports. The infant suffered a detached eye lens, but wasn't' reported to police.
