Arrest in deadly Miami-Dade nail salon shooting

Police have arrested a 19-year-old man and are searching for a second suspect after a Nov. 22 shooting and robbery at a Miami-area nail salon left a 10-year-old boy dead, reports CBS Miami.

On Tuesday, police arrested Anthawn Ragan Jr., who they allege was one of two suspects who stole $300 in cash and valuables from a nail salon in north Miami-Dade county. They say the suspects fired two shots during the robbery, injuring Hai Nam Vu, 42, and killing Vu’s 10-year-old son, Aaron.

An anonymous tip led to Ragan’s arrest at his sister’s Miami home, reports the station. Ragan reportedly tried to hide from police under covers in a back bedroom, and allegedly became violent as police arrested him. He faces charges including first degree murder with a firearm and armed robbery with a firearm in connection with the robbery, and an additional charge of battery on a law enforcement officer, reports the station.

Miami-Dade Police Director J. D. Patterson urged the second suspect to come forward during a news conference Wednesday. Police are reportedly following up on more than 100 tips.

Ragan was reportedly denied bond.

From the hospital where he is recovering, Hai Nam Vu spoke to reporters and thanked the community for their support.

“I hope his death will not be in vain. I hope something comes out in the future that will reduce senseless acts of violence,” Vu said, reports the station. “No parents should have to go through the anguish we are going through.”
