(CBS/WCBS) NEW YORK - New York City police are investigating the death of a person whose body was found inside a barrel in an apartment in Harlem.

CBS New York reports that authorities responded to a 911 call Saturday night for a foul odor at a building on Seventh Avenue. When police arrived, they found a body inside a barrel in an apartment in the building. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

According to the New York Post, the body was found in the room of the grandson of a woman who notified police about the smell. Sources reportedly told the paper that the grandson is in police custody for a psychological exam, but has not yet been named a suspect.

The victim has yet to be identified, CBS New York reports.

A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
