Police in Long Island seek red-light camera vandal
SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.--Police in Long Island, New York say they're looking for a suspect or suspects who tore down a red light camera, authorities told CBS New York.
The cameras, which ticket drivers who pass through red lights, have sparked protests from those who say their real purpose is to generate revenue for the county, the station reports.
Police, however, say tampering with the cameras is a serious crime and could be charged as felony vandalism.
"We are working with the district attorney on this case and we'll be pursuing all leads," Suffolk County Deputy Police Commissioner Tim Sini told the station.
