(CBS/AP) ATLANTA - Police say a Georgia mother and her boyfriend are accused of locking a 3-year-old boy inside a filthy bedroom by nailing the door shut.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that according to arrest warrants, while the toddler was locked in the room, he had no food and was surrounded by filth.

When police arrived at the boy's home on Nov. 21, they had to kick down the bedroom door to reach the child. He was found wearing a soiled diaper and had a severe rash.

"The condition of the home presented hazards such as insects, fecal matter, rotting food, soiled diapers, standing water in the shower," warrants for the couple state.

Officers arrested Cindy Marie Cantu, 24, at the hospital, and later arrested her boyfriend Kyle Erwin Skinner, 23. They are charged with cruelty to children and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Skinner's arrest warrant says he faces battery and assault charges for allegedly pushing Cantu to the ground, hitting her several times and sitting on her abdomen.

Law enforcement officials found the child after a pregnant Cantu went to the hospital claiming her boyfriend Kyle had hit her.

Cantu and Skinner remained in Cobb County Jail on Sunday night on bonds of $15,000 and $25,000, respectivel.
