Please Share Your Rude Customer Stories
Last week's post "How to Read a Customer's Mind" generated angry comments from a guy who hates it when sales reps use "conceptual models." Here's how he reacts when that happens:
The moment I sense that someone who is selling something to me is trying to employ any of these "tools", I either play mind games with them for a while until I get bored (it's great fun watching how the deliberately conflicting clues I provide lead them up one false garden path after the other), or I immediately get so intensely angry that I drop them like a hot potato and seek out a salesperson who will simply focus on their job: trying to help me buy the product that best meets my specific needs. It's pretty clear to me that the "specific needs" of this guy include the need to abuse somebody. In order to feel like a bigwig, he needs to make a sales rep feel like an earwig. With an attitude like that, I'll bet he's abusive to everyone around him, regardless of whatever business sins he uses as an excuse.
It seems to me that if this guy knows so much about selling, he'd be a little more kind to sales reps who are trying their best to use the techniques they've been taught to use. But, then, that wouldn't give him the opportunity to feel like big shot, would it?
Anyway, I'm working on a post about rude things customers do, and I've already got two good examples (playing mind games and getting intensely angry). Could you help me out with some more?
