Pink: Happy At Last

Alecia Moore, better known as "Pink," is out with her fourth album, "I'm Not Dead."

Still edgy and outspoken, the 27-year-old singer addresses social issues in her new album, including a letter to President Bush titled, appropriately, "Dear Mr. Bush" and a dig at the celebrity lifestyle in the lead single, "Stupid Girls."

Pink believes the new album shows an artistic growth since her last album, 2003's "Try This."

"Vocally I feel like I'm a lot better I guess from practice. I don't know; I'm just smarter. I'm not 12 any more," she says with a laugh. "So, onward and upward. I'm very proud of (the album), I feel very close to it, and happy."

Pink credits her happiness to her passion for self-improvement — and her January marriage to motocross star Carey Ross.

"I have learned ... that I don't know everything," she says. "I actually hardly know anything, but I'm a work in progress, and I have great friends. I have great rescue dogs, I have a gorgeous wonderful, husband."

She said making the new album was a positive experience.

"I took my time with this and met a lot of incredible people," she said. "I wrote over 40 songs, I read The New York Times every day — well, I stopped now because it's too much; I read it once a week. And I'm reading better books. I surround myself with smarter people. I'm just trying to be better."

There are some things that Pink's not too happy about, though, and she addresses those issues in "I'm Not Dead."

In the album's lead single, "Stupid Girls," Pink rails against what she sees as society's obsession with the "young Hollywood" lifestyle, and a lack of strong women as role models for girls.

The video for the song shows Pink dressed up as characters resembling Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears.

"It's my social commentary," she said. "I'm using easy examples, I think, to attack a general mentality and a general idea of mindlessness and consumerism and not contributing anything to the world and dumbing yourself down to be cute. I think women have worked too hard and too long to be where we're at and that sort of takes us backwards. I'm an option girl; give me more examples of smart and sexy!"

Pink is joined by the Indigo Girls for her protest song, "Dear Mr. President" and sings with her father, James T. Moore, on the hidden track "I Have Seen The Rain."

Pink wants to go out on tour in support of the album this summer. "We're in the very, very early stages of planning. So probably they'll be some dates in the summer and then take it to Europe in the fall."
