Pia Toscano debuts her first single

(CBS) Pia Toscano's debut single has hit the airwaves.

The singer, whose ninth-place finish on "American Idol" shocked both judges and fans, premiered "This Time" on Ryan Seacrest's radio show on Monday. (Scroll down to listen to the track.)

The song, a ballad about finding strength after heartbreak, was written by Esther Deen, who has worked on songs for Rihanna and Nicki Minaj.

"This Time" will be available to purchase online later this week, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Last week, it was reported that Toscano had signed a deal with Interscope Records and is working on a debut album, due out next year.
