Phila. woman wanted "bigger allowance," tried to extort husband, prosecutors say

CBS

(CBS/AP) PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia woman who wasn't happy with the spending allowance her husband was giving her decided to extort him in a fake kidnapping plot, authorities say.

For that, Yudek Valdez will be spending 11 months in prison.

Authorities say Valdez complained her estranged husband wasn't making payments on her Mercedes.

Did we mention she told the supposed kidnappers that her husband was a heroin dealer who kept $20,000 in cash at home?

The "kidnappers" turned out to be an undercover agent and informant.

After her 2008 arrest, Valdez said she never planned to go through with the plot.

U.S. District Judge Curtis Joyner told the 35-year-old Valdez at Thursday's sentencing that she is catching a break, given a three-year sentencing guideline range.

A defense lawyer called her a foolish woman, but one who was emotionally spent.

Authorities have been unable to find the husband.
