Pharmacy tech stole pills, sold to dealers, La. cops say

GONZALES, La. -- A drug store technician is accused of stealing prescription medications and selling them to alleged drug dealers, reports CBS affiliate WAFB.

Police were called to a CVS Pharmacy in Gonzalez, La., after a worker conducted an audit and became suspicious that employee Shantrell Landry had stolen hydrocodone and Alprazolam pills.

Police say between 6,000 hydrocodone pills and 700 Alprazolam pills were taken.

Landry, 35, was arrested Tuesday on charges of felony theft in excess of $750, and distribution of Schedule II and Schedule IV controlled substances.

The Convent, La., woman allegedly admitted stealing the meds and reportedly told police she sold the pills to "street level dealers."

She claimed she earned more than $20,000 selling the drugs, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing. No bond was set
