Perry: Expect a 2016 announcement later this year

The next presidential election is just under four years away, but Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, says he'll have an announcement about his potential involvement in it by the end of the year.

In a recent interview with the Shark Tank, a Florida political blog, Perry said he'd decide about a gubernatorial re-election bid by June, "and then probably sometime later in the year about 2016."

Perry, who made a late, much-anticipated bid for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, flamed out after a series of gaffes and missteps. If he does decide to run next time around, he's said he'll get in early and be amply prepared.

"2016 is way down the road," Perry said in an interview last year. "But I'll assure you one thing. If I decide to run for the presidency in 2016, I'll be in way before the summer of 2016, or 2015 even...Preparation for a major job can't start just a few weeks before the job interview begins. It's gotta start way before that."
