Pennsylvania teacher accused of having sex with student

LOWER MORELAND, Pa. – Court papers show that an honors math teacher at Lower Moreland High School admitted Friday to having a sexual relationship with a teenage student, reports CBS Philadelphia.

Erica Ginnetti, a married, 33-year-old mother from Philadelphia, allegedly approached a 17-year-old boy at the prom last year and inquired if he would like to work out at her gym, according to Montgomery County prosecutors.

Not long after, police say, Ginnetti began sexting the high school student, sending him explicit pictures and messages. The racy messages reportedly led to a sexual encounter in a car.

Montgomery County DA Risa Ferman told KYW Newsradio, “[The messages] were extremely explicit – very detailed, very graphic, and totally inappropriate for a teacher to be communicating in this way with a student…. There is a line that you can’t cross.”

Police say they were tipped off about the relationship earlier this month after receiving a report through “Child Line.”

“Stunned, speechless, couldn’t even think a thought,” neighbor Jackie Simko, who remembers Ginnetti as a caring teacher, said. “She tutored me while I was in college. It’s mind blowing.”

The school district says that they are working to terminate Ginnetti's employment. At the moment, she is on administrative leave from Lower Moreland High School.

CBS Philadelphia reports that Ginnetti is currently free on $50,000 unsecured bail.
