Penelope Cruz gets emotional over motherhood in Vogue
(CBS) Penelope Cruz is not as tough as her character, Angelica, in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."
The famously private actress revealed her overwhelming feelings as a new mother in the June issue of Vogue magazine. She began to cry when talking about her son, Leonardo.
Cruz said she was surprised by her emotional reaction.
"One second," she told the magazine, her eyes welling up with tears. "This has never happened to me. This is really funny. I'm sorry. It's unexpected."
She said she felt love for her baby "from the first second" he was born on Jan. 22, 2011, and when a parent sees their new baby's face, they are "transformed forever."
Cruz is adamant about keeping her son away from the limelight and says she and husband Javier Bardem want to make sure his life is "as anonymous as possible."
The June issue of Vogue magazine hits newsstands nationwide May 24.
