Pelosi Upset About Dingell Release

Turns out, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) wasn't too thrilled that some of her colleagues used an old quote to make the case that Energy and Commerce Chairman John D. Dingell (D-Mich.) should retain his gavel next year.

A Pelosi aide tells Politico's John Bresnahan that the speaker even called one of the four members on the release - the aide would not say which one - to express her displeasure that they had used her quote from 2005 because it gives the appearance that she's endorsing Dingell - the speaker remains publicly neutral in his race with California Rep. Henry A. Waxman for the chairmanship of the Energy and Commerce Committee.

In October 2005, Pelosi told The Herald-News, “On so many issues, from health care to the environment, to protecting the rights of workers and consumers, Congressman Dingell has been a leader, fighting for the American values we cherish.”

But Pelosi has been telling people she is not getting involved in this fight between the two longtime rivals.
