Pelosi Interns Safe And Sound

A report on WTOP radio earlier today that an intern for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had been assaulted in an apparent hate crime over the weekend has proved false. The victim of the crime, which occurred outside a night club near the intersection of 9th and O Sts NW, has no known connection to Pelosi or to Congress, according to spokesmen for Pelosi's office and the Metropolitan Police Department.

Capitol Hill let out a collective sigh of relief Monday afternoon as it became clear that Pelosi's interns were still safe and sound, happily answering the phones, sorting faxes and fetching coffee without even a hair on their heads out of place.

Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said Pelosi remained worried about hate crimes in general.

"The Speaker is deeply concerned about this and the other recent incidents of hate-motivated violence in the District. However, the victim involved in Sunday's incident is not affiliated with the Office
of the Speaker," Hammill said.
