Pelosi, Dem Leaders Kick In $750K To DCCC In 3rd Quarter

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.) and DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.) gave a combined $750,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee from their own re-election funds during the third quarter, according to their latest FEC reports.

Hoyer led the way this quarter, kicking in $300,000K to DCCC coffers, followed by Pelosi, who gave $200,000. Clyburn and Emanuel each donated $100,000. Van Hollen, in his first cycle as DCCC chairman, gave $50,000.

For the year, Pelosi has given $587,000 to the DCCC, while Hoyer has donated $585,000, Clyburn has shoveled out $685,000, Emanuel has gone in for $300,000, and Van Hollen has added anpther $450,000.

For those of you keeping score at home, and I know who you are, that's a cool $2.6 million to the DCCC just from those five leaders. And that doesn't include the millions they have raised personally for the committee, or the tens of thousands they have given to the re-election campaigns of their House Democratic colleagues.

Being in the party leadership has its privileges, but it also carries a steep price.

I will do the Republican numbers next.
