The Crypt wants to lament the death of movie star Paul Newman at age 83. One of the giants of movie business, Newman was the epitome of cool when I was a young man in the '70s and '80s.
A giant from the time when Hollywood produced movie stars, rather than "celebrities," Newman also helped raise more than $200 million for charity through the sale of his food line.
The Crypt will now go out and rent "The Hustler," "Cool Hand Luke," and "Fort Apache the Bronx." "The Verdict," "Slap Shot" — still the funniest sports movie ever — "Hud" and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." There will be a Paul Newman marathon at my place tonight.
The King is dead, long live the King!
