The Patriots signed Lawyer Milloy to a longterm contract today that reportedly makes him the highest-paid safety in the NFL.
The team called a noon news conference to announce the signing. The Boston Globe reported that the deal would last seven-years and pay Milloy $36 million, including a signing bonus of around $10 million.
The announcement comes one day after the Patriots released five-time Pro Bowl tight end Ben Coates to clear of salary cap space. Coates refused to take a salary cut to stay with the Patriots, and other veterans, including offensive lineman Bruce Armstrong, are being asked to take pay cuts as well to get New England under the $62.2 million cap.
