The Florida Panthers on Monday signed unrestricted free agent Ray Sheppard to a one-year deal worth $750,000 with a club option at $1.2 million.
The 33-year-old Sheppard had 25 goals and 33 assists in 74 games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season, when he earned $1.7 million.
He played parts of three seasons with the Panthers from 1996 to 1998, scoring 51 goals and 50 assists in 143 games, including 29 goals during the 1996-97 season.
The Panthers traded him to Carolina in March 1998 for goalie Kirk McLean.
Sheppard has 347 goals and 290 assists in 770 career games. He has also played for Buffalo, the New York Rangers, Detroit and San Jose over 12 seasons.
