Palin's Make Up Artist Paid Big $$$

This column was written by CBS News Early Show Co-Anchor Harry Smith.

Politicians get prickly when it comes to matters of personal grooming.

Wasn't it Bill Clinton who practically closed down Lax while he got a $200 haircut from someone named Christolphe?

John Edwards got grief for spending campaign money for expensive haircuts and even spa visits?

So it was not surprising that tongues began to wag when we learned this week that Sarah Palin is wearing a wardrobe that cost $150,000.

TV shows brought in fashion experts to show real Americans how they could achieve the same look at a fraction of the price.

Well if that high price tag for clothes made you a little nutty, hear this.

According to a blog in The New York Times, the highest paid staff member on the McCain campaign is not a manager or pollster or policy expert.

It's Sarah Palin's make up artist.

She received more than $20,000 for the first two weeks in October.

What would Joe the Plumber think of that?
