A senior Palestinian official is not welcome at meetings with a congressional delegation visiting Jerusalem.
An aide to House Speaker Newt Gingrich made the demand following comments by Saeb Erekat, the chief Palestinian peace negotiator. Last week, Erekat warned there would be "body bags" if Gingrich went ahead with a visit to the proposed site of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem.
The American embassy is currently in Tel Aviv, but Gingrich supports moving it to Jerusalem before there is a final Mideast peace settlement.
Erekat says his warning was designed to prevent violence, not provoke it.
Gingrich, meanwhile, has canceled the visit to the embassy, saying he doesn't want to "create an incident."
