Pa. man shot himself tinkering with stolen gun, police say
(CBS/AP) ERIE, Pa. - Brian J. Kelly of Pennsylvania is charged with weapons and receiving stolen property charges after local police say he shot himself in the arm while trying to remove a trigger lock from a stolen gun.
When police responded to the shooting early Monday morning, they found Kelly, 44, with the stolen gun in a car that had also been reported stolen.
After police found Kelly with the gun and vehicle in a parking lot, they followed a trail of blood to a nearby home, where they determined that Kelly shot himself while trying to remove the lock with a screwdriver, according to the Erie Times-News.
Kelly was also charged with reckless endangerment, because two children were inside the home when he shot himself in the bicep.
He was taken to the hospital where he was treated under strict police supervision, according to Times-News.
There is no lawyer listed for the suspect, according to online court records.
