Only 19 Days Until "FBI Raid Day" Anniversary

As I noted yesterday, the one-year anniversary of the FBI raid on Rep. William Jefferson's (D-La.) congressional office is May 20, and I am very excited.

I would like to unofficially name May 20 as "FBI Raid Day," or "William Jefferson Day," or "Congressional Corruption Day," or something like that. I am thinking of an event somewhat along the lines of "Festivus" as celebrated by the Constanza family on "Seinfeld." Our own holiday, with our own special celebration. Maybe a re-enactment of the FBI agents entering Jefferson's office in the Rayburn House Office Building, followed by an eruption by former House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.). Maybe some interpretive dance, or something with puppets. And we need t-shirts, as well. We can do all this on the sidewalk of the Rayburn building. Maybe Jefferson will show up. I wish he would. Jefferson could tell us how he is innocent and this is all a big frame-up.

I also want to make this new, unofficial holiday about more than Jefferson. It could be a tribute as well to former Reps. Bob Ney (R-Ohio) and Duke Cunningham (R-Calif.), who are already in prison, in addition to Reps. Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.), John Doolittle (R-Calif.), Rick Renzi (R-Ariz.), Alan Mollohan (D-W.Va.), and former Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas), all of whom the Justice Department is currently investigating. I am thinking big here.

Maybe we could get some floats, with participants doing their own one-act plays, such as "Great Moments in Congressional Corruption History." Work with me here, people.  We need some posters too. And maybe we can get Cunningham and Ney, plus former Reps. Jim Traficant (Ohio) and Frank Ballance (D-N.C.), to send us a video from prison. Oh, this will be such a great time! I am positively giddy, which is not easy for me.
