One Powerball Winner, $254M, In Missouri

Of the millions of tickets sold for Wednesday night's Powerball lottery drawing, one of them matched all six numbers to win the $254 million jackpot.

The winning ticket was sold in St. Louis, but the winner has not yet come forward.

The multi-state lottery game had gone without a top winner since Nov. 29, when one player in North Carolina won a jackpot worth $74½ million. That prize still hasn't been claimed.

The seventh largest lottery jackpot ever had people jumping in their cars and take long trips into states near them that sell the tickets.

The winner has the option of collecting the $254 million in 30 annual payments or taking a lump-sum payment worth $114 million.

In addition to the jackpot winner, 23 players matched five of the six winning numbers in Wednesday's drawing to win at least $200 thousand each.

The winning numbers were: 9, 19, 29, 42 and 53. The Powerball was 17.

Powerball is played in 29 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of picking the winning combination of numbers were 1 in 146 million.
