One Dead In Tenn. Bus Accident

Traffic has resumed on Interstate 24 near the Kentucky-Tennessee border where a Greyhound bus overturned this morning, killing one passenger and injuring more than 40 others.

Traffic was shut down in the eastbound lanes at the Pleasant View exit near Springfield for five hours after the 8 a.m. accident. One lane of traffic was reopened just after noon and the other lanes were expected to be open later in the day.

State authorities say the driver lost control after drifting into the median and sliding on the wet grass. He overcorrected to get back on the road and caused the bus to flip on its side and skid several hundred feet.

The passenger who died was crushed underneath the bus. The driver was injured, but not critically. The rest of the passengers were treated at eight area hospitals.

The bus originated in Saint Louis and was traveling to Atlanta. The driver had just made a stop at the Fort Campbell Army base and was on his way to Nashville.
