Oliver Stone on "CTM" Tues.

(CBS News) Academy Award-winning writer/director Oliver Stone will appear on "CBS This Morning" Tuesday to discuss his new Showtime series, "Oliver Stone's Untold History of the United States," which premiered on November 12th.

Narrated by Stone, the 10-episode documentary looks back at major events of the 20th century that shaped America's unique and complex history. Topics range from President Harry Truman's decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan to the origins and reasons for the Cold War with the Soviet Union, and the fierce struggle between war and peace in America's national security complex.

A decorated Vietnam War veteran, Stone has been working on the series for the last four years along with a small group of archivists that helped him comb through the national archives of the U.S., Soviet Union, England, Germany and Japan in search of papers, letters, memoranda, film and photographs of events and historical figures. Stone has also co-authored a book of the same title (published by Simon & Schuster, a division of CBS) which he hopes viewers will read to get a fuller sense of the events explored in the series.

Be sure to tune in to "CTM" 7-9 a.m. ET, for his full interview.
