Oklahoma child abuse case: Parents of infant twins arrested, baby "looked like a skeleton"

OWASSO, Okla. — The parents of 9-month-old twins were arrested after bringing their babies to an urgent care facility Friday extremely malnourished, suffering from bed sores and other injuries, reports CBS affiliate KOTV.

Aislyn Miller and Kevin Fowler were arrested and charged Saturday with child neglect after urgent care workers called police. Officers in Owasso told KOTV it’s one of the worst cases of child neglect they’ve ever seen.

A nurse told police that one child “looked like a skeleton” and reported seeing a maggot crawling on the baby, which suffered from severe bed sores and diaper rash.

The Tulsa World reports that the other infant had an infected wound on her finger, which medical personnel said was caused by long-term exposure to a piece of hair was wrapped around her finger.

Police then went to the couple’s home, where they found two other older children described by Owasso Deputy Chief Jason Woodruff as being in “better condition.”

Police said the house was kept in poor condition as well.

“A lot of clutter and animal feces and things like that inside the house,” Woodruff said.

Police said Miller told them the twins hadn’t been to a doctor since they were born, because she doesn’t have insurance.

The children were taken into protective custody.
