OkCupid launches "Crazy Blind Date" app

OkCupid, the online dating service, wants to send its members on "crazy blind dates."

The dating site is launching a standalone app called Crazy Blind Date for iPhones and Android devices that will match up singles on dates without any of the formalities of typical online dating.

OKCupid CEO Sam Yagan told the New York Times that the app is meant to simplify dating.

The dating app is straightforward. Once the app is launched it will create a simple profile that consists of a scrambled photo, name, age and sex. Users can sign on using their current OKCupid profiles or create a new one.

Using only sexual preference and geolocation, the app will match a user with a blind date. The idea is to get people away from browsing and get them to meet face-to-face.

Crazy Blind Date is available now at the App Store and Google Play.
