The Web has dozens of sites devoted to one aspect or another of obsessive compulsive disorder. Whether you want to learn more about the chemical origins of OCD, or are looking for a support group for parents of OCD-stricken children, you can find what you want online. Below are a few sites that stand out.
The Obsessive-Compulsive Foundation: The OCF is a support organization for OCD sufferers. Here you'll find information about the disorder and the treatments, and a test that will give you a sense of whether you may have a problem.
Rogers Memorial Hospital, which has a state-of-the-art OCD treatment center. Several of the people profiled on 48 Hours were treated at Rogers.
OCD Resource Center: This site, created by the maker of a drug that can help decrease OCD symptoms, has a good explanation of OCD, an excellent list of resources, including support groups all over the country, and a nice schematic explanation of the role the neurotransmitter serotonin appears to play in the illness.
Internet Mental Health, an enormous site devoted to all facets of the subject, has a section on OCD. The site has gathered information about the malady from many sources. Among the subjects covered here are the success rates of various kinds of treatment.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorders Institute: Part of Massachusetts General Hospital, this program is treating David, the young man who felt compelled to live in his bathroom. The head of the Institute is Dr. Michael Jenike, who appeared on this week's program.
