Vineyard Haven, Mass. -- President Obama embarked Sunday on what looked like vacation by normal standards: a morning at the beach with his wife and daughters and a (partial) round of golf on a local course. But first, the administration announced it believed the Muammar Qaddafi's regime, amidst rebel advances on the Libyan capital, was not long for this world.

Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest, who holds an on-camera briefing before Vineyard-based reporters tomorrow, said in a statement that the president was briefed this morning by Deputy National Security Adviser John Brennan and is in close communication with the Transitional National Council and other partners on the ground.

"We believe that Qadhafi's days are numbered," the statement read, adding that "the Libyan people deserve a just, democratic and peaceful future." The president was to receive updates from his national security team throughout the day.

Joined by his wife and two daughters, Mr. Obama spent two hours at a beach in the Edgartown section of Martha's Vineyard, just south of the Manuell F. Cornellus State Forest. But anyone hoping to get a glimpse of the president's beach attire will be sorely disappointed: traveling press cameras were parked out of range.

Next stop: the Vineyard Golf Club, a private course whose website boasts it to be "the most environmentally sensitive golf club in the world." Joining the President were White House Trip Director Marvin Nicholson, long-time friend Dr. Eric Whitaker, and UBS America Chairman Robert Wolf.

The foursome played "more than 9 holes, but less than 18" in under 4 hours, falling short of a full round on what is described as a "completely organic" course.

Mr. Obama later stopped by a gathering at the West Tisbury home of Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts and his wife Aileen, friends of both the president and his long-term adviser Valerie Jarrett.
