President Obama took part in a private Seder in the Old Family Dining Room of the White House yesterday in honor of the Jewish Holiday of Passover.

In the picture to the left, released by the White House, Mr. Obama appears to be dipping his finger into a cup of wine.

This part of the Seder recounts the ten plagues God used against the Egyptians to convince the Pharaoh to free the Jewish People.

To commemorate this, participants will often either spill a drop of wine onto a dish or dip their finger into the wine (or grape juice) while they recite the plagues.

Passover began at sunset Monday.
