Obama cancels California trip to deal with Syria debate

The White House announced Thursday that President Obama will not be traveling to California next week so he can continue working with Congress on getting authorization for military strikes on Syria.

The president was scheduled to head west early next week to address the AFL-CIO's national convention and to attend a $32,400-per-person fundraiser in Los Angeles.

"He will remain in Washington to work on the Syrian resolution before congress," the White House said in a statement.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the cancellation of the fundraiser Thursday morning, "Friends" co-creator Marta Kauffman and her husband, composer Michael Skoff, were to host next Monday's "$32,400-per-person 'off the cuff' roundtable discussion, as well as a photo line for those who donate $5,000 to the party - and raise an additional $20,000 from others." The fundraiser was to benefit the Democratic National Committee.

The Hollywood Reporter obtained an email from a DNC fundraiser that said the fundraiser will be rescheduled.

Mr. Obama is currently in Russia attending the G-20 economic summit and returns to Washington Friday night.
